Procrastination happens!
It’s most likely to happen where there is a negative emotion or story at play. Whether we’re aware of it or not, there’s always an underlying story. Ultimately, if there is something that is important for you to get done, and you are committed to that, you’ll either delegate it to someone who does it more skillfully than you, or you’ll Just Do It! Sometimes one can shift states to “I get to” instead of “I have to.” Other times you’ll need to just do it, feel like it or not.
When giving in to some tempting activity like tv, food, facebook, etc., that is not what needs to be done, that’s an act of willful procrastination!
For me, I sit down for instance, to do the writing. I’m clear that I will do this and why. I feel my sit bones underneath me and my breath moving in and out. I give myself 60 minutes, phone turned off, door closed and wifi off, to do what needs to be done. I know it’s important and why. I give myself another 60 minutes tomorrow to edit, tweak and try on another iteration.
On the other hand, if what you have been procrastinating on is a cleaning project. You do not have to do it alone 🙂 try cleaning with Aretha Franklin, James Taylor or whoever you love to sing along with.
